Mill & Mortar choose Kampot red pepper, which is in a class of its own due to its taste qualities and grading. All the essential oils in the red ripe fruit are fully developed, resulting in an abundance of flavors. Naturally, the distinctive spiciness of the pepper, but also the sweet aroma and pure fruity taste that is completely unique to this red peppercorn.
This special processing and grading costs a little more than other Mill & Mortar peppers, but is invaluable to all of us who love pepper.

  • The world's first pepper brand

    Kampot red pepper is grown in the Kampot region of Cambodia and its origins can be traced back to the 13th century Angkor Empire. Before the Cambodian Revolution in the latter half of the 1970s, Cambodia was known for producing pepper, which for centuries was considered one of the best in the world. The areas around Kampot and Koh Kong have been particularly famous for their pepper production since the late 19th century. Unfortunately, the revolution destroyed the production and much of the knowledge that had accumulated over generations in the families that grew pepper.
    Mill & Mortar has been following NGO projects for years that aim to revive pepper production in Kampot and today the production has reached a quantity and quality that makes it interesting for them.

  • What is it best for?

    Red Kampot pepper can be used as well as black pepper, but it is especially suitable for dishes where fruity sweetness has a place. For example, in desserts, sauces with cream or simply freshly ground in food.
