What is special about this tea?

" We may be hopeless romantics, but we really like the story behind this tea. A young man and a beautiful young woman from a tea plantation were madly in love. The local tyrant kidnapped the woman and made her his concubine. After she managed to escape, she found out that the tyrant had killed her lover. When she found him dumped deep in the forest, she cried so much that she turned into rain, and the body of her lover turned into a tea bush. Legend has it that since then, the area where Mao Feng tea grows has always been cloudy and humid. All that being said, this tea is really special. It is very different from any other green tea, and even people who are not fans of this variety will like it. "

for teapigs

Nick and Louise started teapigs in 2006 with one goal in mind – to get the English drinking real tea again. They met while working for a major tea company, where they learned all about tea and drank a lot of it. And the more they learned, and the more they drank, the more they realized something important: that there was a huge world of quality teas that weren’t getting the attention they deserved. And so the idea for teapigs was born.

By quality, real tea, teapigs mean whole leaves, whole fruits, whole spices and whole flowers. Without the powdered ingredients found in most tea bags. It's all about the taste. The tea in most tea bags is crushed and brewed so that by the time it reaches the cup, almost all the flavor is gone. Teapigs reject this approach. The whole leaves, fruits, herbs, flowers and spices in teapigs teas are carefully and lovingly prepared to preserve every drop of that precious flavor.

teapigs

Once upon a time in 2006, two friends, Nick and Louise, sat down over a cup of tea and realised something shocking: most people had forgotten what real tea tastes like. The supermarket shelves were full of dusty little tea bags, filled with tiny broken leaves and artificial flavours. The rich, full taste of whole leaf tea was missing.

They decided to change that.

And so, Teapigs was born - a brand with one clear mission: to get everyone drinking proper tea again. Not in a fancy, intimidating way, but in a fun, easy, and friendly way.

They filled big, biodegradable tea temples with whole leaves, herbs, flowers, and spices - ingredients so fresh and natural, they didn’t need any artificial flavours. These tea temples gave the leaves space to dance in hot water, releasing their true flavour just like loose leaf tea, but without the mess.

From day one, Teapigs cared about more than just what was in the cup. They joined the Ethical Tea Partnership, worked with Rainforest Alliance certified gardens, and supported a wonderful community project in Rwanda. They made sure their packaging was kind to the planet, too.

The teas spoke for themselves - bold, fragrant, and full of character. Word spread. Soon, Teapigs went from a little UK brand to a global favourite, loved in cafés, hotels, and kitchens all over the world. Along the way, they won over 150 Great Taste Awards, proving that their passion for tea was more than just talk.

Today, every cup of Teapigs is a little reminder of what tea should be: pure, simple, and made with love.
